I obtained the internship through the Defence Industry Internship Program (DIIP). Jehbco needed to maintain, upgrade and develop their processes digitally. They were using paper based systems for scheduling the factory and synchronizing their purchase/sales orders with manufacturing and packing checklists. The challenge in this project comes from the customisable nature of the Jehbco business model as they manufacture to all client specifications on a large variety of projects with customised silicone rubber compositions.

I outlined and implemented a software solution to communicate sales orders from SAP to factory manufacturing checklists for machine operators in the factory. This included a factory scheduling system for the factory manager to maintain the factory operations.
I handled company sensitive data in implementing a MS SQL database. The software synchronized data from SAP to company sensitive data for use in the factory by rubber milling and extrusion.
My proposal architecturally reflected the processes undertaken by the factory manager.
This stage of the project digitises and partially automates processes undertaken in the scheduling of orders. I have built the software to eventually integrate with machine learning algorithms that will be intuitive to the process and send orders to extrusion machines without being physically sent to the machine by the manager.
The system will integrate with Program Logic Controllers (PLCs) on the extrusion/cutting machines and curing ovens / hot boxes to maintain consistency in product manufacture.
How to work within a small company with many diverse skills. I learnt communication is important especially with managing expectations and timelines for large internal projects. Management of scope creep is essential.
Being resourceful with new technologies, programming languages and processes. Getting clarification of all aspects and expectations of the project scope. Having a clear timeline and process management structure so I can develop components in modular sections and make improvements in an agile fashion.
My role at Jehbco has been extended and I currently work under contract with the company. My role has expanded to take charge of computer issues within the company coordinating with an IT contractor. I am continuing with the project looking to deliver the first implementation for testing by November.
